Dear Sponsor:During
the summer of 1999, a caring group of Houston Police
Department officers will once again "go the extra
mile" in a continuing effort to help find a cure for
the number one child killing disease -leukemia (and ten
times more adults than children die of leukemia!). The
bicycle relay trip for 1999 will begin from Texas
Children's Hospital and end 12 days, 4450 miles later, in
Fairbanks, Alaska.
You can participate in this life saving
effort through sponsorship of these hard working
officers. Whatever you can afford will make the
difference in someone's life. We recognize five different
sponsor levels, PLATINUM ($5000+), GOLD ($1000-$4999),
SILVER ($500-$999), BRONZE ($175-$499), and PATRON
($100-$174). Although the biggest appreciation is
certainly from the thousands of leukemia patients
benefiting from your contribution, we express our
appreciation for your sponsorship by giving you something
in return (see back side for different sponsor level
recognition items).
Including the donations from last year,
the total tax-deductible contributions given through the
HPD Bicycle Relay Team has now passed $2.1 million
dollars. Because of generous giving like this, continuing
research has been possible that has resulted in survival
rates for the most common form of childhood leukemia
rising from 5% in 1960 to 79% in 1998! Further, leukemia
researchers pioneered and developed these major cancer
treatments: chemotherapy, transfusion and radiation
therapies and bone marrow transplants.
There are hundreds of thousands of
adults and children all over the world battling leukemia
who, along with us, appreciate your generosity more than
you will ever know. On their behalf and from all the HPD
Bicycle Relay Team, we sincerely thank you.
