I worked with HPD Officers at a large hospital security department. I know or have met over 200 Officers. There are some that I count as friends. These folks have good hearts and treated me very well. I was in a wheelchair the last few years of my employment and my HPD friends were there to help me every day by unloading my chair and pushing me in to my office. They also helped me with other things that I was physically unable to do. Every one of them treated me with kindness and acceptance. I will always be grateful for these wonderful people. Now that I am retired and have discovered the Internet, I would love to find some of my old buddies online. I have been searching for email addresses, etc. Since I am confined to bed the majority of the time, I really wish that I could find some of them to chat with. He is also protective of his territory and because of his size, we have to be on him at all times when out in the front yard. He'll just dart out to someone walking, scares the heck out of our mailman. But he only wants to shove his nose, you know where, to see if he knows them. He is also terrible with the garbage can in our house. It is under our counter in the kitchen, and that is the first place he goes no matter how many times we are on his case. His breeder said one time she hot wired her can, and that her dog still went for it after he felt the slight zap on his nose. (unbelievable, but that is our Boggie too.) Took them in to save them. Coworker took both. Female already died (her little body probably couldn't handle both the infestation of worms plus the vet shots). Never heard of Ridgebacks before. Vet mentioned the name and said there aren't any around here. Of course, not full bred because of the color (dark grey/black), but has the definite ridge and swhorls (that we thought were pretty strange looking). So, was just looking around the net trying to find some info and pictures to give to my coworker. She's loving "Buster" and he's already very attached after 2 weeks and is up to 20 pounds! He has overcome his fear (he was very frightened at first...like he had been beaten or thrown from a car. The 2 nights they were out in the woods were cold and rainy). We almost wish we had kept him now, but we already have 2 dogs on our farm...."Sally" (Rottweiler, Lab, German Sheperd mix) and "Ralph" (Pit Bull, Chow mix). They're great dogs and as you can see, I love to save the unwanted (both Sally & Ralph are dogs from the pound. Ralph we got here in P'cola.....Sally, I picked up at a pound in central California and carried back on the plane with me under the seat! Sally now 1 year (74 lbs). Ralph now 2 years (64 lbs). Although we didn't have a lot of money we pitched in what we could. We were thinking about you on that ride to Virden and then on to Regina, and from there on to Calgary. Warm in our tent, we woke up at 2a.m. the night you crossed into Canada and tried to figure out where the riders were, hoping they were safe and relatively warm in our windy clime... Our seredipitous meeting, owing to our visiting with Customs Officer Shelly Hobbes, has been one of the highlights of our travels. I show off my pins where ever I get the chance. The riders have been a bit of inspiration. I have a few times thought about your riders persevering when I have encountered a rough, for me, hill. I write a column for a computer newspaper, and your activities will be represented in it. I'm comparing the events of our real holiday with a virtual holiday. Sometimes your are travelling around and neat things happen, both real and virtual. Encountering your group reminded me that there are good things being done by good people. Heroes still exist.
