There is no tv and no radio reception except by sattelite!!! Lots of time for quiet contemplation (actually only a few hours, because we are back on the road and riding tomorrow morning at 8:00). The folks here have been really nice to us. The last ride was a bear... lots of rain, wind, three bears, a couple of moose and something that looked like a reindeer.. whoo hoo!!! So hes like "who lives here" and i'm like i do. and he hand cuffed me. I wasnt to happy about that! And he asked where my parents were and i told him where they were, And he FINALLY let us go. We didnt do anything wrong, the police here in sterling hts Michigan are very mean. They harrass you, then when he let me go he said "I'll be watching you guys" and he left. I think we should move. :-) ANYWAYS, i'm sure all cops arent like that, hopefully not you. :-) You have a good page here, i liked it, well i better be going, school awaits me...And sorry for the novel here, hehe i had to get my point across :-) Bye |

We found a six month old pup at the local animal shelter after losing our 16 year old lab. Was not familar with Ridgebacks until then. Had a most shocking time with her - very hyper and unlike any dog we had before. Had two "experts" come out to evaulate her and was glad to hear that both of them said she was a sweety. Now at almost 2 she is almost 100 pounds of lap dog. Loves the couch! Loves furniture, Loves the house, Loves people. She is agressive with our husky/mix and we cannot trust them together, but she is good with all people (so far) and with a small dog we have and even the cat. I've read that they vary between 60 and 75lbs. I am trying to decide between owning a German Shepherd and a Ridgeback...Any advice? Have you ever purchased a Ridgeback as a puppy? Are they more difficult to train than a Shepherd? I have heard that they have a shorter attention span for training. I found this site whilst looking up information on Rhodesian Ridgebacks. My fiancee and I love animals, and I have been surrounded by dogs all my life. At the moment we have an Australian Kelpie bitch (15 weeks) and we have been looking after a two year old male Rhodesian Ridgeback called Thunder. I have always liked the big dog breeds such as German Shepherds, Dobermans etc. Since having Thunder with us, it has opened my eyes to Rhodesian Ridgebacks. He is a wonderful dog and is such a loyal and loving animal. I was wondering whether in your experience with Ridgebacks you have found them to be protective of the family and generally good guard dogs. They certainly have an intimidating presence. I travel a bit with my studies (I am doing a PhD at the University of New England) and it would be reassuring that my fiancee is protected while I am away. Secondly, I have found that Thunder is quite obedient, however when I let him off the lead to have a run in the park he tends to be a bit free willed and will not come back when he is called, otherwise it takes a bit to get him back. Sari (the kelpie pup) is very mindful of where I am and comes when called. This is fairly typical of the working breeds and is certainly what I have experienced with other dogs previously. I wonder whether it is just going to be a while before Thunder responds to my command or if it is characteristic of the breed? Have you found the same trouble with your dogs? I was wondering this since they are classed as a hound dog and therefore can be a bit aloof at times. Anyway, all the best and keep up the good work with your site. |
