Newfoundland dog - Golden Retriever dog - pet - pictures - dog links

Ben and Who-She are no longer with us, but they brought us so much joy that it is only right that they share our spot on this world-wide ego trip (for what else is a web-page, but braggin' to the world :-))

Ben the Newfoundland

This picture was taken at the Houston Arboretum in 1988.

Another Ben story: I used to work a uniformed extra job at a private school which bordered a high crime area. I watched the kids come in, then patrolled the grounds til my regular shift started. About once a month, I would bring Ben. Talk about some happy kids!!! Not to mention, it really cleared out the derelicts :-)

Ben was a big hairy 185 lb. goof. He was by far the smartest, best all round dog I have ever had. Quietly protective, more personality than most folks could handle, and could understand more commands then my kids!!! And this dog had slobber that we shoulda patented.... it was the perfect lubricant. Once you got it on you, nothing, short of pumice would get it all off (you mastiff owners know what I'm talking about!)

I used to take Ben to the K-9 run here in Houston, where he would get to pose for literally hundreds of pictures with kids, grownups, and other dogs, some as small as his paws. He was always polite about it...good dog!

His favorite toy was frogs... yup, frogs. Loved to carry them around in his mouth. Never hurt a one that I know of. Shucks, beats Yorkshire Terriers :-))

Rest in Peace Tugboat Ben, we have'nt forgotten you. . .

Who-She was constant companion dog growing up. The dog that follows you down the creek, gets dressed up in glasses and hats... sits on the sideline during pickup football games. A general good kids' dog. I loved that dog. She loved me too! My only complaint was that she loved everyone else too.... when other folks left, she was ready to go too. But man, that dog could take up an afternoon with a game of fetch. I never could throw the ball enough times to make her give up (guess that's why they call them retrievers :-)

We had a backyard pool that she was not allowed in (hahahhaha). Her favorite activity would be to sneak up to the patio window, look in (good thing dogs don't understand about reflections, eh?), then jump in the pool, swim a bit, then fall asleep on the steps with her head resting on the side. One of the most human looking doggie actions I have ever seen!

Oh Yeah... the name comes from reparteé with Grandpa Larry, "Is she ready?" "Who's She. Hence, Who-she :-) Hey... sounded really good to a 12 yr old!!!

Dymphna is the current Chase dog.  She is named after the patron saint for Epileptics and Mental Disorders.  She had seven types of parasites and horribly infected eyes when we got her.  We seriously did not think she was going to make it.  Well... she did, and she is one of the best dogs we have ever had.  Did I mention that she is a Pit Bull Dog???  She apparently is out of the Eli line for any of you who follow that sort of thing.  Yes, she is fixed... and no, she has never been bumped rolled or any other such activity :)  Hopefully, she never will be!!
